When your interviewee lets her voice drop towards the end of a great quote, what can you do? With Audacity, it is possible to boost (amplify) that snippet of sound.

  1. Highlight the part of the waveform that needs a boost
  2. Select “Effect” from the menu and then select “Amplify”
  3. Pick an amplification number: with experience, you’ll know how much amplification is needed. You can always “undo” and then “redo” until you find the right amount
  4. Understand that this amplification will also increase the volume of any background sound/noise
